| Operations information for U-1017 | 18.12.1944 - 23.12.1944 First Sailing
U-1017 left Kiel under the command of Werner Riecken on 18th Dec 1944 and arrived at Horten on 23rd Dec 1944 after five days.
| 28.12.1944 - 02.03.1945 Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 28th Dec 1944, U-1017 left Horten under the command of Werner Riecken and after just over nine weeks arrived at Trondheim on 2nd Mar 1945.
Werner Riecken hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy BTC-65 and one was from convoy TBC-60.

On 6th Feb 1945 he sank the British 5,222 ton Everleigh, sailing with convoy TBC-60.

On 11th Feb 1945 he sank the Belgian 5,382 ton Persier, a member of convoy BTC-65.
Most sources credit U 1018 with the sinking of Persier, however reports recently re-examined by researchers indicate this is not the case. Thanks to Dr Axel Niestlé and Ron Young for their assistance in this matter.

U-1017 departed under Werner Riecken from Trondheim on 14th Apr 1945. On the 29th Apr 1945, U-1017 was sunk.
