First Sailing - active patrol
U-140 left Kiel under the command of Hans-Peter Hinsch on 20th Nov 1940 and arrived at Bergen on 17th Dec 1940 after nearly four weeks.
Hans-Peter Hinsch hit three ships on this patrol, one was from convoy SC-13.
  • On 2nd Dec 1940 he sank the British 4,739 ton Victoria City.
  • On 8th Dec 1940 he sank the Finnish 1,997 ton Penang.
  • On 8th Dec 1940 he sank the British 5,652 ton Ashcrest, sailing with convoy SC-13.

Second Sailing
On the 19th Dec 1940, U-140 left Bergen under the command of Hans-Peter Hinsch and after one day arrived at Kiel on 20th Dec 1940.
19.06.1941 - 30.06.1941
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-140 departed under Hans-Jürgen Hellriegel from Gotenhafen on 19th Jun 1941 and arrived back at Gotenhafen on 30th Jun 1941 after one and a half weeks on patrol.
07.07.1941 - 24.07.1941
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-140 left Gotenhafen under the command of Hans-Jürgen Hellriegel on 7th Jul 1941 and returned two and a half weeks later to Gotenhafen on 24th Jul 1941.
Hans-Jürgen Hellriegel hit one ship on this patrol.
  • On 21st Jul 1941 he sank the Soviet 206 ton M-94.
