U-175 left Kiel under the command of Heinrich Bruns on 15th Aug 1942 and arrived at Lorient on 17th Oct 1942 after nine weeks.
Heinrich Bruns hit nine ships on this patrol, one was from convoy TRIN-14.-
On 18th Sep 1942 he sank the Canadian 1,901 ton Norfolk.

On the 1st Dec 1942, U-175 left Lorient under the command of Heinrich Bruns and returned to Lorient on 24th Feb 1943 after just over twelve weeks on patrol. On 1st Jan 1943 in square ET 37, U-175 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 270 Squadron. U-175 was only slightly damaged in the attack. On 30th Jan 1943 in square EJ 96, U-175 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 270 Squadron. U-175 was heavily damaged in the attack.
Heinrich Bruns hit one ship on this patrol.-
On 23rd Jan 1943 he sank the American 7,177 ton Benjamin Smith.
