First Sailing - active patrol
U-224 left Kiel under the command of Hans-Karl Kosbadt on 17th Oct 1942 and arrived at St. Nazaire on 9th Dec 1942 after seven and a half weeks.
Hans-Karl Kosbadt hit two ships on this patrol, one was from convoy HX-212.
  • On 29th Oct 1942 he sank the Canadian 3,921 ton Bic Island, sailing with convoy HX-212.
  • On 12th Nov 1942 he sank the Panamanian 5,614 ton Buchanan.
03.01.1943 - 13.01.1943
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 3rd Jan 1943, U-224 left St. Nazaire under the command of Hans-Karl Kosbadt. The boat was declared missing after 13th Jan 1943.
