First Sailing - active patrol
U-33 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Hans-Wilhelm von Dresky on 19th Aug 1939 and arrived back at Wilhelmshaven more than five weeks later on 28th Sep 1939.
Hans-Wilhelm von Dresky hit three ships on this patrol.
  • On 7th Sep 1939 he sank the British 4,060 ton Olivegrove.
  • On 16th Sep 1939 he sank the British 1,567 ton Arkleside.
  • On 24th Sep 1939 he sank the British 287 ton Caldew.
29.10.1939 - 26.11.1939
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 29th Oct 1939, U-33 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Hans-Wilhelm von Dresky and returned to Wilhelmshaven on 26th Nov 1939 after four weeks on patrol.
Hans-Wilhelm von Dresky hit six ships on this patrol.
  • On 20th Nov 1939 he sank the British 250 ton Delphine.
  • On 20th Nov 1939 he sank the British 276 ton Thomas Hankins.
  • On 20th Nov 1939 he sank the British 329 ton Sea Sweeper.
  • On 21st Nov 1939 he sank the British 276 ton William Humphries.
  • On 21st Nov 1939 he sank the British 287 ton Sulby.
  • On 23rd Nov 1939 he fatally damaged the German 3,670 ton Borkum.
