| Operations information for U-340 | 29.04.1943 - 31.05.1943 First Sailing - active patrol
U-340 left Kiel under the command of Hans-Joachim Klaus on 29th Apr 1943 and arrived at Bordeaux on 31st May 1943 after four and a half weeks. On 11th May 1943 in square AK 27, U-340 came under attack from an aircraft of USN VP-84 Squadron. U-340 was moderately damaged by the attack.

On the 6th Jul 1943, U-340 left Bordeaux under the command of Hans-Joachim Klaus and after over eight weeks arrived at St. Nazaire on 2nd Sep 1943.

U-340 departed under Hans-Joachim Klaus from St. Nazaire on 17th Oct 1943. The boat was sunk on 2nd Nov 1943.
