U-531 left Kiel under the command of Herbert Neckel on 13th Apr 1943 and arrived at return on 6th May 1943 after over three weeks. At 1529 HRS on 22nd Apr 1943 in square AE 83, U-531 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 190 Squadron. U-531 was only slightly damaged in the attack. At 2200 HRS on 22nd Apr 1943 in square AE 83, U-531 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 206 Squadron. U-531 was only slightly damaged in the attack.
