On the 19th Apr 1943, U-616 left St. Nazaire under the command of Siegfried Koitschka and after four weeks arrived at La Spezia on 17th May 1943.
At 0954 HRS on 12th May 1943 in square CH 73, U-616 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 86 Squadron.
At 0940 HRS on 13th May 1943 in square CH 81, U-616 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 233 Squadron. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
At 1644 HRS on 13th May 1943 in square CH 81, U-616 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft.
