U-616 left Kiel under the command of Siegfried Koitschka on 6th Feb 1943 and arrived at St. Nazaire on 26th Mar 1943 after nearly seven weeks.

19.04.1943 - 17.05.1943 Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 19th Apr 1943, U-616 left St. Nazaire under the command of Siegfried Koitschka and after four weeks arrived at La Spezia on 17th May 1943. At 0954 HRS on 12th May 1943 in square CH 73, U-616 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 86 Squadron. At 0940 HRS on 13th May 1943 in square CH 81, U-616 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 233 Squadron. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft. At 1644 HRS on 13th May 1943 in square CH 81, U-616 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft.

28.07.1943 - 18.08.1943 Third Sailing - active patrol
U-616 departed under Siegfried Koitschka from La Spezia on 28th Jul 1943 and arrived at Toulon on 18th Aug 1943 after three weeks.

08.09.1943 - 18.09.1943 Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-616 left Toulon under the command of Siegfried Koitschka on 8th Sep 1943 and returned one and a half weeks later to Toulon on 18th Sep 1943.

On the 3rd Oct 1943, U-616 left Toulon under the command of Siegfried Koitschka and arrived back at Toulon more than one week later on 15th Oct 1943.
Siegfried Koitschka hit two ships on this patrol.-
On 9th Oct 1943 he sank the American 1,570 ton USS Buck.

U-616 departed under Siegfried Koitschka from Toulon on 30th Apr 1944. U-616 was sunk on 17th May 1944.
Siegfried Koitschka hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy, both of them were from convoy GUS-39.-
On 14th May 1944 he damaged the British 7,127 ton Fort Fidler, sailing with convoy GUS-39.
