First Sailing - active patrol
U-618 left Kiel under the command of Kurt Baberg on 1st Sep 1942 and arrived at St. Nazaire on 28th Oct 1942 after just over eight weeks.
Kurt Baberg hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy ON-137 and one was from convoy SC-104.
  • On 14th Oct 1942 he sank the British 5,791 ton Empire Mersey, sailing with convoy SC-104.
  • On 18th Oct 1942 he sank the American 4,772 ton Angelina, a member of convoy ON-137.

On the 25th Nov 1942, U-618 left St. Nazaire under the command of Kurt Baberg and returned to St. Nazaire on 18th Jan 1943 after more than seven weeks on patrol.

Third Sailing - active patrol
U-618 departed under Kurt Baberg from St. Nazaire on 21st Feb 1943 and arrived back at St. Nazaire on 7th May 1943 after more than ten weeks on patrol.
On 28th Apr 1943 in square BD 69, U-618 came under attack from an aircraft of USN VC-9 Squadron. U-618 was not damaged by the attack.
On 3rd May 1943 in square BF 72, U-618 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 10 Squadron.

U-618 left St. Nazaire under the command of Kurt Baberg on 8th Jun 1943 and returned more than twelve weeks later to St. Nazaire on 5th Sep 1943.
Kurt Baberg hit one ship on this patrol.
  • On 2nd Jul 1943 he sank the British 5,225 ton Empire Kohinoor.
