First Sailing
U-74 left Kiel under the command of Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat on 22nd Feb 1941 and arrived at Helgoland on 23rd Feb 1941 after one day.
24.02.1941 - 27.02.1941
Second Sailing
On the 24th Feb 1941, U-74 left Helgoland under the command of Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat and after three days arrived at Bergen on 27th Feb 1941.
05.03.1941 - 11.04.1941
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-74 departed under Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat from Bergen on 5th Mar 1941 and arrived at St. Nazaire on 11th Apr 1941 after over five weeks.
Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat hit three ships on this patrol, two of these ships were in convoy, both of them were from convoy SC-26.
  • On 11th Mar 1941 he damaged the Icelandic 97 ton Frodi.
  • On 3rd Apr 1941 he sank the Greek 4,274 ton Leonidas Z Cambanis, sailing with convoy SC-26.
  • On 3rd Apr 1941 he damaged the British 11,402 ton HMS Worcestershire, a member of convoy SC-26.

Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 5th Jul 1941, U-74 left Lorient under the command of Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat and arrived at St. Nazaire on 12th Aug 1941 after five and a half weeks.
Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat hit one ship on this patrol from convoy SL-81.
  • On 5th Aug 1941 he sank the British 4,922 ton Kumasian, part of convoy SL-81.
08.09.1941 - 26.09.1941
Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-74 departed under Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat from St. Nazaire on 8th Sep 1941 and returned to St. Nazaire on 26th Sep 1941 after two and a half weeks on patrol.
Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy, both of them were from convoy SC-44.
  • On 19th Sep 1941 he sank the Canadian 925 ton HMCS Levis, from convoy SC-44.
  • On 20th Sep 1941 he sank the British 6,966 ton Empire Burton, sailing with convoy SC-44.

  • On 7th Nov 1941 he sank the British 8,532 ton Nottingham.

On the 9th Dec 1941, U-74 left St. Nazaire under the command of Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat and after just over two weeks arrived at Messina on 24th Dec 1941.

Ninth Sailing - active patrol
U-74 departed under Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat from Messina on 27th Dec 1941 and arrived at La Spezia on 8th Jan 1942 after more than one week.
23.04.1942 - 02.05.1942
Tenth Sailing - active patrol
U-74 left La Spezia under the command of Karl Friederich on 23rd Apr 1942. U-74 was lost on 2nd May 1942.
