11.01.1944 - 04.03.1944 First Sailing - active patrol U-989 left Kiel under the command of Hardo Rodler von Roithberg on 11th Jan 1944 and arrived at Brest on 4th Mar 1944 after seven and a half weeks.
06.06.1944 - 08.06.1944 Second Sailing - active patrol On the 6th Jun 1944, U-989 left Brest under the command of Hardo Rodler von Roithberg and returned to Brest on 8th Jun 1944 after two days on patrol.
08.07.1944 - 10.07.1944 Third Sailing - active patrol U-989 departed under Hardo Rodler von Roithberg from Brest on 8th Jul 1944 and arrived back at Brest on 10th Jul 1944 after two days on patrol.
09.08.1944 - 26.09.1944 Fourth Sailing - active patrol U-989 left Brest under the command of Hardo Rodler von Roithberg on 9th Aug 1944 and after nearly seven weeks arrived at Marviken on 26th Sep 1944. Hardo Rodler von Roithberg hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy EPM-42 and one was from convoy TBC-28. On 23rd Aug 1944 he damaged the American 7,176 ton Louis Kossuth, sailing with convoy EPM-42. On 26th Aug 1944 he sank the British 1,791 ton Ashmun J Clough, a member of convoy TBC-28.
28.09.1944 - 03.10.1944 Fifth Sailing On the 28th Sep 1944, U-989 left Marviken under the command of Hardo Rodler von Roithberg and arrived at Flensburg on 3rd Oct 1944 after five days.
03.02.1945 - 05.02.1945 Sixth Sailing U-989 departed under Hardo Rodler von Roithberg from Kiel on 3rd Feb 1945 and after two days arrived at Horten on 5th Feb 1945.
07.02.1945 - 14.02.1945 Seventh Sailing - active patrol U-989 left Horten under the command of Hardo Rodler von Roithberg on 7th Feb 1945. U-989 was lost on 14th Feb 1945.
