Notes for U-27
U-27 made two patrols during the Spanish Civil War, the crew were awarded the Spanish Cross in Bronze.

On 20th September when NW of the Hebrides U-27 attempted to torpedo the destroyers HMS Fortune and HMS Forester. U-27's location was betrayed by the torpedoes exploding prematurely, bringing the two destroyers in to an effective depth charge attack. KL Franz had to surface the damaged boat, he and the 37 crew were taken into captivity for the remainder of the war. Material valuable to British intelligence was recovered by a boarding party before U-27 sank.
