On the 1st May 1941, U-98 left Lorient under the command of Robert Gysae and after four weeks arrived at St. Nazaire on 29th May 1941.
Robert Gysae hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-126, one was from convoy OB-322 and one was from convoy SC-30.

On the 17th Jul 1942, U-98 left St. Nazaire under the command of Wilhelm Schulze and returned more than eight weeks later to St. Nazaire on 16th Sep 1942.
U-98 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 1 ship. The 185 ton American USS Bold was damaged by a mine on 10th Aug 1942.
