U-60 departed under Georg Schewe from Wilhelmshaven on 12th Dec 1939 and arrived at Kiel on 19th Dec 1939 after one week.

Eighth Sailing - active patrol
On the 30th Jul 1940, U-60 left Kiel under the command of Adalbert Schnee and after more than two weeks arrived at Lorient on 18th Aug 1940.
Adalbert Schnee hit one ship on this patrol from convoy HX-62.
  • On 13th Aug 1940 he sank the Swedish 1,787 ton Nils Gorthon, sailing with convoy HX-62.
21.08.1940 - 06.09.1940
Ninth Sailing - active patrol
U-60 departed under Adalbert Schnee from Lorient on 21st Aug 1940 and arrived back at Lorient over two weeks later on 6th Sep 1940.
Adalbert Schnee hit two ships on this patrol, one was from convoy OB-205.
  • On 31st Aug 1940 he damaged the Dutch 15,434 ton Volendam, a member of convoy OB-205.
  • On 3rd Sep 1940 he sank the British 1,401 ton Ulva.
