U-101 left Kiel under the command of Fritz Frauenheim on 29th Apr 1940 and arrived at Trondheim on 3rd May 1940 after four days.

Second Sailing
On the 5th May 1940, U-101 left Trondheim under the command of Fritz Frauenheim and after five days arrived at Kiel on 10th May 1940.
21.05.1940 - 25.06.1940
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-101 departed under Fritz Frauenheim from Kiel on 21st May 1940 and arrived back at Kiel on 25th Jun 1940 after five weeks on patrol.
Fritz Frauenheim hit seven ships on this patrol.

Fritz Frauenheim hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy OA-199, one was from convoy OB-205 and one was from convoy SC-1.
  • On 19th Aug 1940 he sank the British 4,576 ton Ampleforth, sailing with convoy OA-199.
  • On 28th Aug 1940 he sank the Finnish 3,868 ton Elle, a member of convoy SC-1.

On the 5th Oct 1940, U-101 left Lorient under the command of Fritz Frauenheim and arrived back at Lorient more than two weeks later on 24th Oct 1940.
Fritz Frauenheim hit five ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-77 and four were from convoy SC-7.
  • On 12th Oct 1940 he sank the Canadian 5,779 ton Saint Malô, from convoy HX-77.
  • On 18th Oct 1940 he sank the British 3,917 ton Creekirk, sailing with convoy SC-7.
  • On 18th Oct 1940 he damaged the British 4,155 ton Blairspey, a member of convoy SC-7.
  • On 19th Oct 1940 he sank the Dutch 1,904 ton Soesterberg, part of convoy SC-7.
  • On 19th Oct 1940 he sank the British 2,962 ton Assyrian, from convoy SC-7.

U-101 departed under Ernst Mengersen from Lorient on 24th Nov 1940 and returned to Lorient on 7th Dec 1940 after nearly two weeks on patrol.
Ernst Mengersen hit five ships on this patrol, four of these ships were in convoy, all of them from convoy HX-90.
  • On 30th Nov 1940 he sank the British 5,378 ton Aracataca.
  • On 1st Dec 1940 he damaged the British 4,958 ton Loch Ranza, sailing with convoy HX-90.
  • On 1st Dec 1940 he sank the British 8,826 ton Appalachee, a member of convoy HX-90.
  • On 2nd Dec 1940 he sank the British 2,782 ton Kavak, part of convoy HX-90.
  • On 2nd Dec 1940 he sank the British 5,497 ton Lady Glanely, from convoy HX-90.
23.01.1941 - 19.02.1941
Seventh Sailing - active patrol
U-101 left Lorient under the command of Ernst Mengersen on 23rd Jan 1941 and arrived back at Lorient on 19th Feb 1941 after nearly four weeks on patrol.
Ernst Mengersen hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy OB-284 and one was from convoy SL-64.
  • On 14th Feb 1941 he sank the British 5,462 ton Holystone, sailing with convoy OB-284.
  • On 17th Feb 1941 he sank the British 5,237 ton Gairsoppa, a member of convoy SL-64.
