U-12 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Dietrich von der Ropp on 25th Aug 1939 for operations in the North Sea and arrived back at Wilhelmshaven just over two weeks later on 9th Sep 1939.

Second Sailing
On the 23rd Sep 1939, U-12 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Dietrich von der Ropp for operations in the English Channel. The boat was declared missing after 8th Oct 1939.
