U-25 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Viktor Schütze on 18th Oct 1939 for operations in the North Atlantic and arrived back at Wilhelmshaven four and a half weeks later on 19th Nov 1939.
Viktor Schütze hit one ship on this patrol from convoy 20-K.-
On 31st Oct 1939 he sank the French 5,874 ton Baoulé, sailing with convoy 20-K.
On 25th October U-25 was damaged by escorts of convoy 20-K.
U-25 commenced two patrols each of which had to be aborted due to defects with the troublesome Type IA boat, 19.12.39 - 21.12.39 and 31.12.39 - 03.01.40.
| 13.01.1940 - 19.02.1940 Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 13th Jan 1940, U-25 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Viktor Schütze for operations in the North Atlantic and returned to Wilhelmshaven on 19th Feb 1940 after over five weeks on patrol.
Viktor Schütze hit six ships on this patrol, one was from convoy OG-16.-
On 17th Jan 1940 he sank the Norwegian 1,140 ton Enid.

On 17th Jan 1940 he sank the British 4,751 ton Polzella.

On 18th Jan 1940 he sank the Swedish 6,873 ton Pajala.

On 22nd Jan 1940 he sank the Norwegian 2,589 ton Songa.

On 3rd Feb 1940 he sank the British 6,805 ton Armanistan, a member of convoy OG-16.

On 13th Feb 1940 he sank the Danish 5,177 ton Chastine Mćrsk.

U-25 departed under Viktor Schütze from Wilhelmshaven on 3rd Apr 1940 for operations around the Orkneys and arrived back at Wilhelmshaven on 6th May 1940 after more than four weeks on patrol.
| 08.06.1940 - 29.06.1940 Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-25 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Heinz Beduhn on 8th Jun 1940 for operations SW of Ireland and returned three weeks later to Wilhelmshaven on 29th Jun 1940.
Heinz Beduhn hit one ship on this patrol.-
On 13th Jun 1940 he sank the British 17,046 ton HMS Scotstoun.

On the 1st Aug 1940, U-25 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Heinz Beduhn for operations in the North Atlantic. The boat was declared missing after 1st Aug 1940.

| Notes for U-25 | The cause of U-25's loss is still uncertain. The most likely scenario is that the boat hit minefield No.7 which was laid by British destroyers on the 3rd August 1940, N of Terschelling (Frisian Islands). All 49 crew were lost.
